Welcome to Visual Planet’s Dual Touch wma8 Beta Software

We invite you to trial our ma7 replacement, Windows Mouse Assist Version 8 (‘wma8’) Beta Software Driver providing Dual Touch functionality for our ViP Interactive Foil™. You will find the wma8 user interface to be very familiar as we did not want to go too far away from a winning formula. There is however a significant change to the way that the application has been constructed so it is important that you provide us with feedback on your experience of using wma8. We have also designed a new self installer and we would appreciate your feedback on how well this worked for you too. If you have had an earlier release of wma8 we would like you delete this then trial the new self install and updated driver version.

Very Important!

Before we go any further it is very important to make sure that during your evaluation of the wma8 touch software ma7 is not running at the same time. Our new wma8 self installer will de-activate the ma7 control program if it is found to be running during the install, however we would recommend you delete the ma7 startup shortcut to prevent ma7 from automatically starting when you next restart or boot up your PC.

Dual Touch two finger Pinch and Zoom and Web page scroll

The wma8 powered ViP Interactive Foil™ does not yet bring you independent two touch or true multi-touch (more than two fingers). It does however provide a level of dual touch i.e. the use of two fingers to activate additional touch features such as zoom and pinch, and scroll.

We have achieved this by utilizing the standard central roller ball feature that exists within XP, Vista and  Windows 7.

This feature is already used in popular applications such as Google Earth, Bing Globe and Windows Picture Viewer for example to zoom and pinch, and scroll in standard web pages, and can be programmed easily into applications such as Flash. These are useful features that enhance the touch navigation process without requiring complex application development.

Dual Touch two finger Zoom and Rotate

In addition to the standard function described above we have enabled wma8 to deliver a dual touch pinch, zoom and rotate experience using an openGL demonstration program which allows you to manipulate images and video using two fingers.

The demonstration program allows you to add your own images; details on how to do this are enclosed in the self install program delivered with wma8.

To achieve a satisfactory evaluation of the demonstration program you will need a Duo Core 2GB PC and a minimum of 256MB Graphics device.

WMA8 Additional Touch Functions

Single Touch and Drag

Provides a normal single touch, drag, and right-click function (if you hold your finger in one place for more than 5 seconds and RC mouse control is selected). This is normal Microsoft mouse emulation.

Single Touch/Drag – Dual Touch Pinch and Zoom (mouse wheel)

Provides a normal single touch function and utilizes the function of the centre mouse roller for XP, Vista , and  Windows 7 to provide standard Pinch and Zoom. This is activated when you touch the screen with two fingers. For example, Google Earth uses this function as a standard feature. You can also use this function to scroll web pages and PDF documents. It is possible for third parties to use this function to build Zoom and Pinch into the touch applications e.g. expanding maps and images

There is no two finger rotation functionality in this mode. You will still be able to rotate applications which have images that can be rotated with a single finger drag. Right-click is available by holding a single touch for more than 5 seconds

Single Touch/Drag – Dual Touch Zoom and Rotate/NO RC (apps specific)

This mode provides a Zoom and Rotate functionality. It is important to note that it does require the first finger making the touch to remain in a fixed position while you Zoom and Rotate with the other finger. It also provides Single Touch and Drag, but not right-click

We provide software allowing you to demonstrate this function and also add your own images and video clips for your own testing. The source of this demonstration is also provided allowing you to build your own programs.

Please note: We recommend using the USB Controller Board version of our ViP Interactive Foil™ for the ‘Single Touch/Drag – Dual Touch Zoom and Rotate/NO RC (apps specific)’ function, as the increased refresh rates will provide a better zoom and rotate experience.

The ‘Single Touch/Drag – Dual Touch Pinch and Zoom (mouse wheel)’ function is suitable for both the USB and Serial Controller Board versions. In all cases wma8 will work in XP, Vista and Windows 7 Operating Systems.

News on Windows 7 and our independent Two Touch / Multi-Touch Developments

In case your customers are enquiring, Visual Planet confirms that our ma7 and wma8 touch software is suitable for the standard mouse emulation within Windows 7 Operating Systems. However, it doesn’t support the extended gesture sets for multi-touch functions.

Visual Planet will be developing true two touch and multi-touch ViP products for release in 2010. By then I am sure we will see many more useful multi-touch applications available for the large format interactive touch solutions that the ViP Interactive Foil™ is targeted at.
